In 2004, she made her first theatrical film appearance by playing the character named Nandita in the Tamil-language drama film, Kanavu Meippada Vendum.
Tanu Vidyarthi was cast as Toothpaste’s Mother in the 2011 family comedy film, Chillar Party, which won the 2011 National Film Award for “Best Children’s Film”.
In September 2020, she appeared as Sultana Begum in an episode of the Star Bharat historical comedy show, Akbar Ka Bal Birbal, based on folktales of mighty Mughal Emperor Akbar and his witty and trusted courtier Birbal.
Tanu brought to life the character of Khyati in the Hindi-language drama television series, Maharani, in 2021. The show premiered on SonyLIV on May 28, 2021, and stars Huma Qureshi, Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti, and Inaamulhaq.
