Suicide Squad- August 5th, 2016
Directed by David Ayer, it is inspired by DC’s comic book team Suicide Squad. The movie follows around a group of super villains who were recruited by the government. They go on missions and take down a powerful threat to the world. We will see many familiar faces once the movie gets up on the big screens – Jared Leto, Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, Margot Robbie, Scott Eastwood, Alyssa Veniece, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, etc.
The Girl On The Train- October 7th, 2016
This thriller is based on Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel of the same name. It’s about a woman named Rachel Watson (portrayed as Emily Blunt) who catches a train every day to work. As she travels to New York, she can’t help but focus her attention on two particular houses on the route. One of them is her old house where she lived with her ex husband, Tom. The other is from a newlywed couple Megan and Scott Hipwell (or as Rachel calls them, Jess and Jason). However, one day Megan/Jess goes missing and Rachel feels a strong urge to find out what happened. Along the way, she will face many issues and find out various secrets about many lives… but will she find out what happened to Megan?
Dr. Strange- November 4th, 2016
Stephen Strange, a successful surgeon who prioritizes money and luxury above all. He’s brilliant in his field of work and has a positive future ahead of him. But one day, he gets into a car crash which changes his life forever. While he was lucky enough to survive, in the comics Stephen (Benedict Cumberbatch) has gained severe damage to his hands and is unable to perform surgeries. Since his hands are his most precious tool, he goes through great lengths to heal the damage. After many failed treatments in various fields of medicine, he takes his chance on a myth; somewhere in the mountains of Tiber, there is a man known as the “The Ancient One” – one who can heal anything and anyone. He goes through unbearable challenges, but comes out victorious when he learns about the secret world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them- November 18th, 2016
J. K. Rowling has become a household name with her massive Harry Potter book series – which were later turned into movies. Fantastic Beasts is, in Rowling’s words, neither a sequel nor a prequel to Harry Potter. It is a new addition to the wizarding world, taking place seventy years before Harry’s own adventures. This time, the spotlight is on Newt Scamander, who you may remember as the writer of one of Harry’s textbooks named “Fantastic Beasts”. There are around 70 magical creatures described in the book; all of them Scamander has written based on his own experience with said creatures. The movie will be based on Newt’s life in New York in the year of 1926. More specifically, his struggles after magical creatures accidentally escape his briefcase and start wandering around the US.
Moana- November 23rd, 2016
We can’t have a list of anticipated movies without a little bit of Disney, can we? What separates Moana from your usual Disney heroine is that she is the first Polynesian princess. We have to say that we’re loving the diversity from our favorite childhood filmmakers! Relatively speaking, there isn’t a lot of information known about the soon-to-be-released animated film. All that’s known, is that Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) will use her navigational talents to sail towards a fabled island. Joining her on the trip will be Maui, a demi-god (voiced by Dwayne Johnson).
Assassin’s Creed- December 21st, 2016
Assassin’s Creed is actually a series of video games – for those of you who aren’t gamers. It has a total of 9 main games; 11 games filed under “other” and a few more that were canceled. The movie will be set in the same universe as the video game. You’ll have Michael Fassbender in the lead role, playing Callum Lynch. Callum will get to relive the memories of his ancestor, an Assassin of the 15th century Spain named Aguilar de Nerha. He will use his newfound memories to become an Assassin and help defeat the Templars. The real question though is as follows – will his memories be enough to serve him? A lot has changed since the 15th century. Will Callum try to act on this with his ancestor’s knowledge? Or will he have to gain some modern-day skills to defeat the old nemesis of the Assassins?
Passengers- December 21st, 2016
You may not be a fan of sci-fi, but you’re most certainly a fan of either Jennifer Lawrence or Chris Pratt (or possibly both). The duo are playing Jim and Aurora, a pair who were supposed to be transported (along with thousands of other people) to a distant colony planet. However, the trouble begins when there’s a malfunction in the sleep chambers. Resulting in the waking of a single passenger Jim, who later decides to wake up another person, Aurora. What happens next is relatively unknown. So you should definitely mark the date on your calendars for this space romance movie. P|us there will be robots! (In case you were wondering).
Kong: Skull Island- March 10th, 2017
You’ve watched King Kong. You’ve definitely watched King Kong. And while the centre of the movie was a giant ape, you’ve probably never actually wondered where exactly he came from. This movie is here to tell us just that – King Kong’s origins. Was he man-made? Was he a normal ape just living life to the fullest until aliens abducted him and started doing experiments on him? Did he have a mom or a dad? Were they big like him? Or maybe even bigger? Was unrequited love from a female ape perhaps the reason he went ballistic on the Empire State Building? We have many questions that require answering and this movie may just answer all of them. The fact that Tom Hiddleston is in it also really helps.
Beauty and the Beast- March 17th, 2017
A tale as timeless as Disney itself. Beauty And The Beast is a story that has warmed our hearts since the 18th century. This story has been told, retold, remade, rewritten, and redone in thousands of different versions. Each one has the same concept- the beauty behind the beast. This story tells us that love is blind. Anyone can be loved, and to never judge a book by its cover. In this version, Emma Watson portrays the amazing Belle. We couldn’t think of anyone else more fitting or more deserving of the role. The Beast, on the other hand, is portrayed by the brilliant Dan Stevens. Joining the crew are actors such as Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans, Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson, and many more.
Power Rangers- March 24th, 2017
Yes, you’ve read that right. Power Rangers is now officially getting another movie! Ah, where go our childhoods. The franchise is obviously as big as it ever was, now that a movie adaptation is on it’s way, and we’ll get to see the adventures of the Red Ranger (Dacre Montgomery), Pink Ranger (Naomi Scott), Yellow Ranger (Becky G.), Blue Ranger (RJ Cyler), and Black Ranger (Ludi Lin) on the big screens! Much like the series, in the movie the Power Rangers will use their powers and abilities to help save the world from an alien threat, and of course pretending to have normal lives in between by going to high school.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2- May 5th, 2017
Before the original movie was even fully released back in 2014, the second volume was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con, marking this as the fifteenth movie of MCU. Not much of the crew has changed, so in the sequel we’ll once again see Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper in the film, as well as James Gunn behind the scenes as its director. Considering the fact that it comes out in a year, the general plot is still unknown. What we do know is that this movie will dig into Peter Quill’s personal life, since it will be about him wanting to find out more about his father. We’ll have to just wait and see what dirty family secrets turn up in his quest to uncover more about who he really is.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales- May 26th, 2017
The story will mainly revolve around Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp) search for the legendary Trident of Poseidon (in case you weren’t paying attention in mythology class, or The Little Mermaid for that matter, Poseidon is the Greek God of the Sea, and the Trident is his powerful weapon/artifact). What the old captain plans to do with its power, we have no clue. Rumour is that, with the Trident, Jack Sparrow will want to seek out his old nemesis Captain Salazar in order to defeat him with the artifact that grants control over the ocean to the person who possesses it. But this is also Salazar’s plan to defeat Captain Jack. The question is, who will get to it first?
Wonder Woman- June 2nd, 2017
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1imustIqOnk
We’ve got quite a few Marvel movies coming out, so what’s DC bringing into the picture? Apparently, the answer is Wonder Woman. You know her and you love her, so let’s hope that director Patty Jenkins will do her justice. Playing Diana Prince (AKA Wonder Woman) will be Gal Gadot, and Diana will not be the same woman you saw in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, since this is, as told by Gadot, happening in a time a hundred years before, back when she was a bit more naive and pure, so she will be a whole lot different that the confident heroine we saw in Dawn Of Justice.
Despicable Me 3- June 30th, 2017
The following statement may bring you pure joy or utter disgust, but we’ll say it anyway- minions are back! After the original move was released, it quickly became a massive success. The public’s obsession with the tiny yellow creatures, and a billion dollars with just the spin-off, of course the creators would bring more to the franchise. This time the main theme will be sibling rivalry between Gru and his long lost twin Dru (both voiced by Steve Carell). So we’re expecting a bit of a Frozen thing to go down, but every other detail is unknown, so we have no idea what the creators will come up with this time. Maybe Gru will be aiming towards stealing Saturn this time? It does come with some pretty cool rings… The Moon is so two seasons ago.
Spider-Man: Homecoming!- July 7th, 2017
What we know about Homecoming is that it isn’t set in the beginning of when Peter Parker got his powers and took on the role of our favourite web slinger. Tom already debuted as Spidey in Captain America: Civil War, and has received a thumbs up by fans for his borderline perfect portraying of the Spidey they got to know and love in the comics. The story will be set at least six months after Peter got his powers. We can say that we’re glad a guy won’t get bitten by a radioactive spider for the third time. Let bygones be bygones. If Tom’s role isn’t enough to persuade you to book your tickets a year too early, Robert Downey Jr. is also in it, probably being a mentor to Peter as he learns about his powers and his new life.
Dunkirk- July 21st, 2017
You know him, you love him- it’s Christopher Nolan! Batman’s own director has decided to take a break from the Dark Knight as he takes on a new project, and this time it’s a war movie. If you know your history, you know the story of Dunkirk, or rather it’s evacuation/battle during World War II. The storyline is set in the 1940s and will follow British, French, and Belgian soldiers who get surrounded by German forces. It will be a story of evacuating said soldiers, and the screenplay was written by Nolan himself. With names such as Tom Hardy, Fionn Whitehead, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, James D’arcy, and even Harry Styles, Christopher Nolan is probably looking at another massive hit. Speaking of hits, it’s also rumoured that Nolan has plans of crashing a vintage WWII German Luftwafee plane for the film, and apparently it costed the studio $5 million.
Thor: Ragnarok- November 3rd, 2017
It’s time for Chris Hemsworth to get back on the scene as the Son of Odin! The plot is still relatively unknown, but there are a few facts that made their way online. We know that joining Thor will be the Hulk, and apart of some of Thor’s old team (Lady Sif, Heimdall, and more), this movie will be the introduction to Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson). In Norse mythology, Valkyrie chooses who gets to live and who dies in battle, and then he helps those who die pass to the following realm. Many suspect that in Ragnarok, Thor will have to face Thanos who seeks to collect all of the Infinity Stones. Along with the fact that Ragnarok represents the end of days in Norse mythology, this will most likely we a movie you won’t want to miss, especially is you’re planning on seeing the Avengers: Infinity War.
Pitch Perfect 3- December 22nd, 2017
We will once again allow The Bellas to sing their way into our hearts! The plot is unknown, but if you liked the first two movies, chances are you’ll like the third one as well, since Kay Cannon (the writer of the original and the sequel) is defining the destiny of the Bellas after they graduate! What will happen to them, will they go on a tour? Will they be the opening act for Little Mix? Will they go on another competition? Perhaps the Olympics of the a capella world? Will Beca and Jesse finally stop messing around and get married already? Maybe Jesse will make Beca watch another classic movie, like The Karate Kid (the original one from 1984)? Kay, give us a call, we have quite a few things for the suggestion box. We’re really putting our hopes in the Little Mix opening act though.
So did you like our pick? Which movie are you looking forward to seeing? Tweet us at CelebMix with your answers!
